There are several residential roads in the Tooting Bec area lined with grand late Victorian / Edwardian terraced houses that look huge now. The doors usually have stained glass windows and tiled porches, and are wide enough to admit a coach-built pram without jiggling.


Most have been bought and refurbished by city families who need room for the live-in nanny. Some, like Edie's, have not, and threaten to blow fuses if there is a power surge.
